What Affects the Cost of a Court
Every site is different, so every court is priced on its own. These are the things that make the biggest difference.
The site
How level the ground is, how much cut and fill is needed, drainage, and access for trucks and machinery. A flat site with good access costs less to build on.
The size
A bigger slab means more earthworks, concrete, surface and fencing. Our standard tennis slabs are 34 x 16 m for a recreational court and 36.6 x 18.3 m for an ITF recommended court. See the court dimensions guide for other sports.
The base
Concrete is our preferred base. It costs more than road base, but it lasts the longest and suits either surface. Road base is a more affordable option under synthetic grass only. If you already have an asphalt court in good, serviceable condition, it can be reused as the base.
The surface
Acrylic is generally cheaper than synthetic grass. See acrylic vs synthetic grass for how they compare.
Fencing, lights and hardware
The length and height of fencing, the number of gates, the number of light poles and how far power has to run, plus net posts, nets and hoops.
Approvals and engineering
Some sites need a DA, for example where there are height restrictions on light poles. Others need an engineer because of site or soil conditions.
New court or resurface?
Resurfacing costs a lot less than a new court, unless the slab is badly damaged. The condition of the base is the first thing we check. If it's in poor shape, we'll tell you.
Frequently asked questions
Why don't you list prices?
Every site is different. The ground, access, base, size, fencing and lighting all change the price, so we quote each court on its own.
Is resurfacing cheaper than a new court?
Yes, a lot cheaper, unless the slab underneath is badly damaged.
Is road base cheaper than concrete?
Yes. Road base is a more affordable option, but it can only be used under synthetic grass. Concrete lasts the longest and suits either surface.
